P.E.C. has high academic expectations, and homework is a part of the learning process in reviewing standards and developing responsibility skills. The primary purpose is to allow students additional time to practice newly acquired skills and help students develop healthy study habits at an early age, as well as teach responsibility and time management. This allows them to be better prepared for the academic demands placed on them in the future. Homework will be given on Monday in a packet and will be expected to be turned in on Friday. If you have a concern about nightly homework due to your daily schedules, please contact me. Failure to return ALL assignments and have an agenda signature each day will result in missing assignments, which will be reflected at the end of each quarter in the student behavior and study skills portion of the report card. Students will not be penalized in content areas for incorrect answers on homework.
Homework is monitored and will be reflected on the report card. It is assessed using the following scale:
4 - outstanding (0-1 missing days).
3 - satisfactory (2 missing days)
2 - needs improvement (3 missing days)
1 - significantly far below grade level expectations (4+ missing days of homework)
Although it is not given an academic letter grade, it can affect whether a child receives Honor Roll or Principal’s Award. Per school policy, students who receive a 1-2 on their report card in any area are not eligible for either award. Each assignment does not count as one day. For example, if a student forgets his Reading and Math on Monday, he is only penalized for one day, not two individual assignments.
