Reading: This week we will be using S.U.R.E to refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. Ask your child to explain what S.U.R.E stands for!

EX: Who was Winnie the Pooh's Best Friend?
Winnie the Pooh's best friend was Eeyore. I know his best friend was Eeyore because Winnie the Pooh said, "we will always be best friends" to Eeyore after the party.
We will also be starting the chapter book, Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing.Throughout reading this book we will be having open discussion groups to find details that support the main idea.
Writing: In writing we are working on opinion writing. We are also going to touch upon how to create a writing piece from beginning brainstorming to the final publishing details.
This week's topic is "What is your favorite restaurant?"
Spelling Skill Unit : Spelling Patterns for /k/
Spelling Words Unit : Wind, Behind, Letter, Cannot, Among
Challenge Words: Opinion, Sandwich, Evidence, Reason, Feature
Math: We will be testing our knowledge on place value of whole numbers in our Math in Focus unit. This will include numbers up to 100,000 and comparing the values of these numbers. The test will be on Tuesday with a review of answers on Wednesday. We will then start chapter 2 of Math in Focus on Thursday.
Social Studies: We will be looking at the different types of maps that are available to us and how to use them in different scenarios.
