Reading: We are now using R.A.C.E to refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. Ask your child to explain what R.A.C.E stands for!
R - Restate the question.
A - Answer the question.
C - Cite evidence from the text.
E - Explain how the evidence supports your answer.
EX: Who was Winnie the Pooh's Best Friend?
Winnie the Pooh's best friend was Eeyore. I know his best friend was Eeyore because Winnie the Pooh said, "we will always be best friends" to Eeyore after the party.
We will also be continuing our reading of the chapter book, Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing. We will be reading chapters 5 and 6 and having open discussions of the main ideas that change throughout the reading.
Finally in reading we are focusing on the context clues in the text to help figure out meanings of unknown words and phrases. Try testing your child at home with some interesting words to see if they can be detectives and figure out the meanings!
